I am in Hawaii right now with RVCA shooting. I have been hanging a bunch with my friend Kelsey Brookes. He is such a rad positive guy and his artwork is beautiful. Check his stuff.

This is the second installment of my road trip with the RVCA dudes up north to SF and back. Once we got to SF, we got some super fun waves at Ocean Beach, where there was a contest being held. Big shifty beach break peaks were fun.

This photo below is of Ellis, who hand shaped this stringerless flat-as single fin. He’s tested it in big Indo Desert Point tubes and its proven to work.

Knost has honestly one of the most original styles and approaches waves in a completely different way than I have ever seen in person. Really rad checking him out. And to be honest, I have to admit I completely passed judgement on him before I knew him and kinda wrote him off. After doing my first trip with him I was blown away.

The next morning we thought it would be a good idea to check some super localized spots with a bunch of dudes and cameras. Sick idea especially when once we got to the sand and the waves were good, we got screamed at “Split Kooks!” I love localism. Honestly. So awesome. Keeping the dream of “Secret” waves alive.

And thats all she wrote. 101 B-line back to Malibu. I had a few days at home, and am now in Hawaii. I will be posting some hawaii photos up soon. Aloha!

I just did a small road trip up to San Francisco with some friends from RVCA to shoot some of Al Knosts new line with rvca, as well as shoot some winter wear. The crew was Al, Tanner, Ellis who is in town from Australia, Ford, Jack Coleman, Matty and brought along Travis for the ride too. Been shooting a bunch of “scenic/landscapes” lately, not really sure why. When I was younger I looked past landscape photography. I never really appreciated work by photographers like Ansel Adams until lately. Not really sure why, but I have been running with it a little bit. The 101 north has some beautiful and photogenic landscapes and is especially conducive to the feeling of a continual interest of mine, exploring open space. Not a whole lot going on between Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz on the 101.

We stopped by Rincon at night on the way up. It was super low tide and the waves were small, but the water had a really bright phosphorescence. You can see it in the white water of the waves where it looks neon blue. Pretty rad. And the stars reflecting in the wet sand. Super high ISO and a fast lens and a steady hand.

This was our first glance at surf. Jalama Beach.

Jalama had a few waves the next morning and we decided to take a stop and get wet. Fun dumpy peaks.

We post session grinded some of the world famous Jalama Burgers. I think trav ended up going for the breakfast Jalama burger. 

Back on the road, we were making a B-Line to Santa Cruz to make it there before dark to get an evening session in.

Stopped at this beautiful, Año Nuevo which is the site of the largest mainland breeding colony of the northern elephant seal. kinda sketchy seeing that Great White’s like to snack on seals…. Waves were lackluster, but it was photogenic to say the least.

Right before Ellis paddled out the skies parted for a second and the light got beautiful.

A surf trip without any photos of the surf. Pretty nice. After all, it never really is about the actual surf in the end.

flew over my home break on the way to shooting the band Angels and Airwaves in Seattle last week. I think I can see Pascal getting a wave from Mystos to Gully all the way from here…

Leaving for Indonesia in a few days and can’t wait to completely check out for a little while. Until then, lots of work to do.
