I spent the second half of September aboard the Indies Trader 4 with some friends for a surf trip in the Indian Ocean. I love Indonesia.
These are the windows from which we awoke every morning to our first glimpse of the surf. Excitedly tripping over our water logged toes as we scurried to the back deck, eyes socked with sleep and aching muscles, grabbing our boards before jumping off the stern, you would often forget a very required sunscreen application.
A few stereotypical sunrise/sunset shots… I dont normally shoot sunrise or sunset landscapes, but the colors are so intense its hard not to.
Our captain Martin Daley got a skeg to his shin one day half way through our trip. Local board shaper legend Tim Ryan was right there to stitch him up, hung over from the nights prior upper deck drinking shenanigans.
The boat. Indies Trader 4. Notice on the front someone getting a massage by one of the two message therapists that flew over from Bali. Spoiled.
What a few years of sitting in the Indonesian sun will do to your feet… the proud owner is only in his mid twenties.
Through a fortunate or unfortunate series of mis-communications and last minute reorganizing, I ended up flying on a private chartered jet from Singapore to Padang in order to get to the boat with the group. My life still amazes me every day.
Side car sleep…
Local big town village… literally.
I have a photo of this exact same local canoe driven vendor from a few years back. Had to get another. Im sure ten years from now, he will still be there.
